I began my interest in photography as a teenager. Growing up in the beautiful southwest with scenic landscapes had a lot to do with my love of art and nature. After high school, I saved up money all summer long from lawn-mowing jobs to purchase my first 35 mm SLR camera. In college, I began to develop my own film and photos prior to the advent of digital photography. I have always loved art and photography but did not view it as a practical career choice and so it has remained an intense hobby as I pursued becoming a psychologist.

My photography has not only been influenced by my upbringing in the Southwestern U.S., but also by my two beautiful daughters and their involvement in synchronized swimming (aka “artistic swimming”). Exploring all aspects (underwater, surface, air/drone, etc.) of this sport through photography led to becoming the official photographer for the United States Artistic Swimming Association and eventually led to becoming an accredited 2024 Paris Olympic Photographer.

I have been most recognized for this work, having published online with National Geographic, Vogue, The Smithsonian Magazine, The Observer (The UK’s Guardian’s Sunday paper), and most recently in a book entitled “Swimming Pretty” on the history of synchronized swimming. In 2025, I was published in print in the September issue of Vogue Japan.

I have received many awards from various international contests, including the International Photography Awards (IPA), the Siena International Photography Awards (SIPA), the Underwater Photographer of the Year (UPY), the Sony World Photography Organization’s contest, and the World Sports Photography awards. In 2025, I won the grand prize for single best black and white image in the Black and White International Awards contest. For the last several years, I have expanded my work to include new sports (crew, diving, skiing, etc.) and dance and two years ago, I created my first dance model team!
